Description:
Colonies form both hemispherical heads and flattened plates, up to 1 m in diameter. The ridges are formed by smooth, widely separated septa. There is a thin line along the ridge tops, where the septa come together. Large polyps extend during night (M. meandrites polyps).
Color:
Tan to yellow-brown and brown.
Corallites:
Corallites large, between 1 and 2 cm. Septal margins smooth. Columellalamellar.
Habitat:
Inhabit most reef environments, down to 80 m.
Distribution:
Common to occasional Florida, Bahamas and Caribbean.
